Medico-Legal Fees & Terms

All work is undertaken in accordance with Dr Abu Hassan’s Terms of Engagement, which can be provided in full on request.

  • Hourly rate: as per the Terms of Engagement
  • No VAT is currently charged
  • Time-costed for: record review, report preparation, conferences, travel, waiting and court attendance
  • Disbursements (e.g. travel, accommodation if required) are charged at cost
  • Screening reports: typically 2–4 weeks, depending on complexity and record completeness
  • Full CPR-compliant reports: generally 8–16 weeks, depending on case complexity and workload

Specific timeframes can be agreed at the point of instruction in line with Court or procedural deadlines.

  • Interim invoices may be issued at appropriate stages of the work
  • Payment is due within 4 weeks of the invoice date, unless otherwise agreed in writing
  • The instructing solicitor (“Appointor”) is personally responsible for payment of fees and disbursements, regardless of client funding or costs recovery, including in legally aided cases
  • Interest and costs may be charged on late payments in accordance with the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998

Where a hearing, meeting, or reserved time is cancelled due to settlement or for reasons not attributable to the Expert, the following cancellation charges apply:

  • Within 28 days of the reserved date – 80% of the agreed fee
  • Within 14 days – 90%
  • Within 7 days – 100%

All reports and associated written work remain the intellectual property of Dr Hassan. A non-exclusive, non-transferable licence is granted to the instructing solicitor for use solely in connection with the specific case for which the report was commissioned.

Reports are prepared in accordance with CPR Part 35 and relevant professional guidance on expert evidence. When acting as an expert witness, Dr Hassan’s primary duty is to the Court, and his evidence is independent, objective and unbiased.
